Stay and Visit ® Italy presents an unforgettable tour of the Tuscan Region. Let us whisk you away on this luxury tour. All you have to do is unpack your luggage and begin enjoying…“Under the Tuscan Sun “while exploring this scenic and idyllic region known for the best Italian wines. Breakfast (B) will be continental style.
Day 1 - Fri - Depart from your city to Florence.
Day 2 - Sat - Montecatini - Arrive at Florence Airport, transfer to Montecatini and check into our hotel. Montecatini is a beautiful upscale town with trendy shops featuring popular fashions from Italy and other countries as well as peaceful parks and attractions. This afternoon we will take the funicular to Montecatini Alto. Both towns offer a unique perspective of the Italian lifestyle and showcase the charm and quaintness of old-world towns in Tuscany, with lovely views of the countryside.
Day 3 - Sun - Florence - Florence is an open-air exhibition of art and culture where culture is a way of life rather than a matter of prestige. Today’s tour will include the Uffizi Art Gallery. Florence is famous worldwide and definitively the heart of the Renaissance period and home of fine arts and literature and simply the epitome of “Renaissance Splendor”. Florence has powerful symbols of Italian and European culture in every nook and cranny, to the extent that it is hard to identify this city with just one symbol. It may be the sculpture of David or the romantic Ponte Vecchio, or Giotto's bell tower. Florence could also be represented by famous people such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo or Dante Alighieri, to name but a few. (B)
Day 4 - Mon - Pisa - Lucca - Today we will see Italy's most photographed attraction, the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The tower is one of many works of art and architecture in the city's Campo dei Miracoli or "Field of Miracles'' north of the old town center. The Campo dei Miracoli also houses the Duomo (Cathedral), the Baptistery and the Camposanto (monumental cemetery). We will also visit the lovely city of Lucca. Its walls remained intact even as the city expanded and modernized. When the wide walls lost their military importance, they became a pedestrian promenade ringing the old town. The walls are still intact today and the four principal sides are each lined with a different type of tree. (B)
Day 5 - Tue - San Gimignano - Volterra - Today we will see first hand why the scenery of Tuscan countryside is so famous. We will visit the multi-towered town of San Gimignano that rises on a hilltop and Volterra, one of the finest and lesser known hilltop towns in the heart of Tuscany. A haven of Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance art and architecture, Volterra is a perfect choice for a peaceful relaxing holiday. (B)
Day 6 - Wed - Cortona - Siena - This morning we will visit Cortona and Siena, a flamboyant medieval mélange of palaces and towers, olive groves and orchards. Thanks to Frances Mayes novel “Under the Tuscan Sun”, Cortona’s economy is revitalized and has become a new tourist attraction for the region. Besides the inspiring views of the surrounding hills and valleys, piazzas and cafés, a visit to the Museo Diocesano and Museo dell’Accademia Etrusca (where a bronze chandelier dating to the 5th century BC is displayed) is a must. Siena's heart is the “Piazza del Campo” famous for the “Palio”, a festival and horse race that takes place on the piazza twice a year. This race is a subject of debate all year round among the 10 participating “Contrade” (suburbs) and can cause men and women to celebrate or cry depending on the success or failure of their representing horse. The race lasts about 2 minutes and it is the greatest traditional festival in Siena. The beautiful Duomo with Gothic and Romanesque architecture contains works by Donatello and Pisano. (B)
Day 7 - Thu - Florence - 8:00AM transfer to Florence’s airport. Have a safe return home, treasure the memories and… grazie and arrivederci a presto! (B) …
